Work experience placements
that cover all job groups

Whether you’re thinking about a future in healthcare or simply want to see what working in the NHS is like, our work experience placements are a great way to get started.

We offer a variety of opportunities across all job groups — from clinical teams on the wards to the non-clinical departments that keep our hospitals running smoothly.
Placements are available at Queen’s Hospital, King George Hospital, and other BHRUT sites throughout the year.

Non-clinical work experience

Interested in how the NHS operates behind the scenes?

Our non-clinical placements offer insight into roles such as administration, HR, communications, finance, estates and facilities, and more.

Medical work experience

Our structured one-week Medical Shadowing Programme runs throughout the year and gives students the chance to experience life in a hospital environment.

You’ll observe clinical teams in action and attend teaching sessions with our Fellows - gaining a broad understanding of careers in medicine.

Volunteer programme

Volunteer programme offers extra support to young people

The Young People’s Volunteer Programme is a bespoke work placement programme for young people who have recently left care, are at risk being NEET (not in education, employment or training), are from seldom heard groups, or those who have are not yet work ready.

Time for 'T' when it comes to industry placements

We’re proud to partner with local colleges to deliver T Level industry placements across BHRUT. These placements give students the chance to gain real workplace experience and develop the skills needed for a successful career in the NHS.

T Levels are a nationally recognised qualification for 16–19-year-olds — an exciting alternative to A levels or apprenticeships that combine classroom learning with hands-on experience.
